Market leader – two locationsHet Kaasmerk is the largest producer of cheese marks worldwide. The company employs 36 people divided between two locations in Europe: one in Leiden (Netherlands) where the hard quality cheese marks are made, and one in Arinthod (France) where the soft quality cheese marks are produced. Integrity as a spearhead Het Kaasmerk BV is a fully independent company operating on the basis of the objective of keeping its customers satisfied in the long term. As Het Kaasmerk supplies to all cheese producing customers, reliability and integrity are spearheads of our strategy. Innovative: data matrix, RFID and soluble cheese marks Het Kaasmerk is working on the development of new automatic reading and traceability systems in close collaboration with its customers. This is done for cheese marks provided with a data matrix as well as for marks with an RFID chip. Datamatrix It is relatively easy to read out cheese marks with a data matrix using cameras fitted with the right software. This equipment can be linked to the cheese production IT system. A cheese mark provided with a data matrix is guaranteed to maintain its foodstuff quality. RFID It is also possible to apply an RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) chip to cheeses, especially the bigger and heavier cheeses. The chip must be recycled from the food chain at a certain point in time to keep the cheese edible. Oplossende kaasmerken For foil cheeses Het Kaasmerk is working on marks which fully dissolve after application to the cheese; for this type of cheese the mark is needed only during the production for the purpose of traceability and optimum quality control. It would be very time-consuming to remove all the marks from the cheeses afterwards. Soluble cheese marks dissolve during the first few weeks of maturation. |
